What is ABCTM and how does it differ from other chiropractic techniques?
ABCTM, or Advanced Biostructural CorrectionTM is an advanced form of chiropractic. It works on the premise that our bodies are self-healing, self-correcting and self-adapting, however there are some specific scenarios where the body cannot self-correct and hence compensations will occur instead. If left uncorrected, these compensations lead to the deterioration of postural alignment which can cause a plethora of other problems.
Let’s look at this further.
Our bodies are exceptionally clever. At any one time there are millions of messages going to and from the brain to keep us functioning, adapting and alive.
The primary role of the brain is to interpret these messages coming back from the body and make corrections to keep us moving towards a better state of health.
When our bodies experience certain forms of physical stress it can cause pressure in the body that results in a micro-misalignment to the spine. Because our brains are in constant surveillance mode, sometimes these misalignments are self-corrected.
The one exception to this is when that particular spinal misalignment is in a forward direction, as we have no muscles in our spine that can pull that misalignment directly backwards again. When we have spinal misalignments that tip us forward, other parts of our spine and bodies will tilt, twist and compensate to create more stability. Most of the time this is happening without any of our conscious awareness!
We see tell-tale signs of this in people every single day. A forward head posture, forwards rounded shoulders, excessively rounded upper back, a sway lower back, the list goes on and on. This whole complex will continue to evolve over time ending up in a tightly wound person with poor posture and a compromised nervous system.
So what does ABCTM actually do?
